Dieter Rams

Dieter Rams
Ten principles or (commmandments) to use to consider if something has good design.
  1. Innovation
  2. Needs to be useful and functional
  3. Aesthetic Quality
  4. Consumer should understand the product
  5. Neutral, a tool, not art or decoration(unobtrusive)
  6. Honest, says what its going to do, not more or less
  7. Long lasting(not trendy)
  8. Detailed and Thorough
  9. Environmentally Friendly
  10. Less is More, Simplicity
According to designer Dieter Rams there are many things when trying to decide if something is well-designed. I learned that not only does something need to look good, but needs to work well, and function for the consumer. The product should be in honest in what its function is and should not be trendy but be long-lasting in both design and function. In addition it should be simple and to the point while being environmentally friendly. It pertains to my major because in graphic design you always have to consider the design principles when it comes to designing anything.
